In last year's GO IITB 2010 campaign, we had spotlighted the following areas for alumni donations and support, and the response was gratifying:
- 95 donors supported Hostel Alumni Team Stewardship (HATS)
- Over 50 donors donated funds for the Young Faculty Award (YFA) and Faculty Fund
- Over 200 donors picked "Greatest Need" and helped support causes such as the Student Development Fund and Faculty Development Fund
We once again invite all alums to participate in the GO-IITB Campaign.

Young Faculty Award (YFA) Program
The goal of the YFA Program is to attract young faculty to IIT Bombay and nurture their development in supporting IIT Bombay’s "Tryst with Excellence" and continued global technological leadership. The YFA program awards a grant of Rs. 1 lakh per year for up to 3 years to new faculty members, which is a significant incentive to attract new faculty.
IIT Bombay and all the IITs are facing a severe faculty shortage, and as many as one-third of the teaching posts at the IITs and NITs are vacant. By 2014, IIT Bombay will reach its expected maximum capacity of 8000 students, and it would have to ensure that there are enough faculty members to maintain a healthy student-teacher ratio. By helping IIT Bombay recruit faculty and by enhancing the quality of the incoming faculty, alumni can have a direct impact on the critical mission of faculty recruitment. Indeed, YFA has already proved to be a difference maker in IIT Bombay’s recruitment efforts, sending an important message to aspiring faculty candidates that alumni support this critical initiative.

Heading Back to Old Haunts: HATS & You
If one could create a montage of memories for every student who has ever passed through IIT Bombay, the majority of it would be colored by reminiscences from their hostel days. Late night ‘cack’ sessions; preparing for 'tension' tests or the numerous events that pepper the institute 'cult' scene; innumerable pranks played on other students; the Mess with food that was an even greater mess … life in the hostel was, is and perhaps will always be, the most cherished part of our stay at IIT Bombay.
HATS (Hostel Alumni Team Stewardship) is an unique alumni driven initiative that facilitates a reconnection with your hostel, with old friends and wing-mates, as well as with new students from successive generations, right up to the present. Looking back, each of you can probably identify many things that would have made your stay at the hostel more comfortable. Now, you can do your bit to ensure that at least some of those facilities are available to the current residents of your hostel. These could be infrastructural improvements such as a better gym, basketball court, library or music room; contributing to the welfare of old mess workers; engaging with students by supporting their research programs; and empowering them to improve the condition of their hostel in a proactive fashion.
By contributing to HATS, and contributing toward the continued welfare of your hostel, you can give back to the place that has given you so much and really make a difference for your hostel.

Alumni contributions for Greatest Need can make a big impact on a wide range of programs at IIT Bombay. Two very important initiatives supported by this program are the Faculty Development Fund (FDF) and the Student Development Fund (SDF). These funds have made a very significant impact on the research and development activities of faculty members and current students, supporting activities such as participation in international conferences and dissemination of R&D results.
