ASMP’s Spring-Phase commences this January
IIT Bombay’s esteemed Alumni Student Mentorship Program announces the commencement of its Spring Phase, 2012. The phase shall begin with the student registrations on the 21st of January, 2012, followed by the allotments and the Mentor-mentee first meet on campus at ASMP’s ‘Break the Ice’ event.
ASMP is about mentoring current students of IIT-B by the alumni and addressing their career oriented doubts.
This program initiated by the Student Alumni Relations Cell (SARC), IIT Bombay, aims at enhancing alumni network within the institution and betterment of student interaction with the veteran alumni. Among our primary goals, one is to provide students with career guidance and help them make decisions in their future endeavors, which initiated the idea of Student-Alumni Mentorship.
The program primarily focuses on
- Providing students a platform for one to one interaction with their esteemed alumni.
- Rendering students with career guidance.
- Tailoring them for their future endeavors.
- Catering to the betterment of alumni-student relationships by engaging them in fruitful conversation.
After running as a pilot program for one semester, ASMP was launched for all the students with the support of the Dean ACR office in January 2010. The initiation manifested large number of alumni to reconnect with the institute after a long span since graduation.
Over the four phases, ASMP has had over 250 alumni mentors registered, of which 190 are currently mentoring. The students have also shown great enthusiasm about the program, in its second phase the program had over 600 registrations of which over 350 students were mentored.
In its second year, the allotment criterion was revised to improve the quality of matching mentor and mentees. A dedicated team of 6 student Coordinators was also formed to work for its smooth functioning. Evidently there was a three-fold increase both in the number of students and alumni that have registered for the program in the third phase.
STUDENT ALUMNI MEET,2011
The program, for the first time organized its Mentor-Mentee meet at its ‘Break the Ice’ event during the Student Alumni Meet (SAM), held at IIT-B campus during September. The event saw large number of alumni revisit the campus, some after decades, to interact and share their memories with their mentees and even other students from their respective hostels.
