Sunil Munshani
Chief Executive Officer, Novitaz
Suni Munshani was named Chief Executive Officer of Novitaz in January 2005. He brings to Novitaz a unique blend of venture capital and operations experience. As the General Partner of Persephone Investments, a venture capital firm focusing on early-stage technology and biotech investments, he set investment strategy and generated deal flow in technology services and software as well as enterprise software and services companies.
In his capacity as General Partner of Persephone Investments, Mr. Munshani also
assumed the role of chief executive officer at Synetics, an early stage company
in which Persephone was the largest shareholder. Synetics was acquired by ACS
Inc. in 2002, and Lockheed Martin subsequently acquired the division of ACS that
included Synetics.
More recently, Mr. Munshani founded Hammershine Capital Advisors, an incubator
of hedge funds, following his work with Sofaer Global, a global macro hedge
fund. In addition, Mr. Munshani has made numerous investments in consulting and
software development companies.
Prior to assuming the role as investor in technology companies, Mr. Munshani
started a number of software and software services companies. In 1992, Mr.
Munshani founded Paradigm Systems Corporation of America (PSCA), a technology
company focused on networks and network services. PSCA was acquired in 1996 by
Platinum Technology, which subsequently was acquired by Computer Associates.
Prior starting PSCA, Mr. Munshani founded Trirex Systems in 1988. Trirex Systems
performed software development and consulting for the financial and
telecommunications industries. In April 1993, the intellectual property of
Trirex Systems was acquired by Perot Systems.
Mr. Munshani received a Bachelor of Technology (BS) degree with Honors from the
Indian Institute of Technology (IIT), Kharagpur, India in 1985, where he
authored a thesis on fuzzy decision making. After graduating from IIT, he joined
Digital Equipment Corporation in 1986.
Mr. Munshani has served on the board of directors of several companies,
including Navin Mail, Telivoice (a division of Navin Communication, Inc), Cradle
Technologies, Inc., Acurion, Inc. and ARPE Electronics. He is a charter member
of The Indus Entrepreneurs (TiE), a life member of the Near & Far Aid
Organization and a member of the board of directors of the Center for Performing
Arts in Westport, Connecticut. He also is actively involved in alumni and
development activities for IIT and was a founding donor for the establishment of
the Advanced VLSI Design Laboratory at IIT, a state of the art facility that is
not available in any other academic institution in India.
